Volvo Cars has revealed the latest addition to its lineup of SUVs, the all-new Volvo XC40 comapct SUV in Dubai, UAE.
The new Volvo XC40 is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new modular vehicle architecture (CMA), which will underpin all cars in the 40 Series including fully electrified vehicles.
STYLING – EXTERIOR & INTERIOR
Ian Kettle, lead exterior designer describes the Volvo XC40 as a ‘Tough Little Robot’. With muscular lines and a bullish stance, the XC40’s aggressive, yet tasteful design is a scaled down version of the styling seen on the full-size XC90, which sets it apart from competitors in the compact SUV segment. A variety of exterior trim options, that include an R-design package, will also be available.
R-Design versions add a host of sporty touches, including a gloss black front grille and front and rear lower bumper sections, a black roof and door mirrors, and dual integrated exhaust pipes. They also get uprated sports suspension and larger alloys. On the inside, there’s leather/nubuck upholstery, front seat cushion extensions, a perforated leather steering wheel and gear knob, and aluminium dashboard inlays.
The XC40 also offers a radically new approach to storage solutions inside the car in the doors and under the seats, a dedicated space for phones with the facility of inductive charging, a fold-out hook for small bags – often called curry bags – and a removable waste bin in the tunnel console. It also comes with hands-free, power-operated tailgate.
Designed with urban living in mind, the XC40 combines a commanding road view with typical Volvo architecture with unparalleled ergonomics, thanks to high-resolution driver display and voice control that understands normal speech – and a host of safety systems (Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert) to constantly monitor the driver surroundings for potential hazards, such as other vehicles, pedestrians, or even animals, that could cause an accident. As an option, you can also have it fitted with optional Harman Kardon Premium Sound audio system with 13-speakers and a 1200 Watt output.
POWERTRAIN AND OUTPUT
The XC40 will be offered with a choice of diesel or petrol turbocharged four-cylinder engines, a 247 bhp T5 petrol four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain, as well as with 3-cylinder, hybrid and fully electric powertrains later in the production run. Power is delivered via Volvo’s all-wheel drive system.
