Five years since Rimac Automobili revealed the Rimac Concept One electric supercar at the Frankfurt Motor Show we finally witness its supercar capabilities in this video, where it is pitted against the current green-peace superhero, the Tesla Model S 90D and the technologically-advanced Italian hypercar, the Ferrari LaFerrari.
If you can ignore the stop-start language of the presenter and the fat calves of the grid girl, the race is quite exhilarating…with the Rimac Concept One crushing both its rivals in emphatic manner.
This Croatia-built electric Rimac Concept One supercar with its 1,088 bhp and massive 1,600 Nm of torque, courtesy of four electric motors can get doe the 0 to 100 km/h dash in 2.6 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 6.2 seconds and the 0 to 300 km/h dash in 14.2 seconds. It uses an independent gearbox for each of the 4 electric motors with the front featuring single-speed gearboxes and the rear axle using two-speed double-clutch gearboxes and a Rimac All Wheel Torque Vectoring (R-AWTV) to distribute the appropriate amounts of torque to each wheel. As per the Ferrari website, the LaFerrari is capable of running to a 100 km/h in under 3 seconds, with many sources clocking it at around 2.6-2.7 seconds, while 200 km/h can be achieved in under 7 seconds, 300 km/h in under 15 second and crossing the quarter-mile marker in 9.8 seconds.
The Tesla Model S 90D is no slow coach either, and according to the Tesla website the in ‘Insane’ mode it will hit 60 mph in a claimed 2.5 seconds…which is arguably faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo S.
