Toyota Motor Corporation announced the recall of 3.37 million cars globally over possible defects involving airbags and emissions control units, of which only 620 cars will recalled in the UAE. So is a Total Recall, except this time Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t be starting in it.
Japanese auto-maker stated that they are recalling 2.87 million cars over a possible fault in emissions control units and about 1.43 million cars due to repairs involving air bag inflators.
Al-Futtaim Motors, the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in the UAE have started a Special Service Campaign by contacting owners of 430 Toyota Zelas MY 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014, and 190 Lexus CT 200h, MY 2010 to 2014 in the UAE.
They also mentioned, “The subject vehicles are equipped with a fuel vapor canister assembled to the fuel tank. There is a possibility that a crack could develop on the edge of the resin channel for the emission gas flow due to an improper shape of the channel edge at that location. Over time, the crack could expand and may eventually cause fuel leakage when the vehicle’s fuel tank is full,”
Internationally, the Prius hybrid, Corolla sedan, and luxury Lexus brand vehicles have been most affected by this recall. About 50% of them which were built between 2008 and 2012, have a issue with passenger and driver-side air bags that could see the safety device partially deploy and risk injury, Toyota said.
