The 2013 Geneva Motor Show saw the launch of the Rolls Royce Wraith; a highly exclusive Ghost coupe and a more expensive alternative to the Bentley Continental GT which at € 245,000/$320k USD is about $100,000 more than a Continental GT Speed.
The coupe is christened after the famous cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his teams spent their winters. We think, the Wraith could have done without a fastback element, due to which the delineate appears distorted.
The yacht-like interiors of this ultra-luxury coupe will avail “Phantom-grade” cow hides, Canadel wood trim and Starlight Headliner fiber optic roof lighting which incorporates 1,340 fibre optic lamps hand-woven into the roof lining.
The most powerful Rolls-Royce in history is powered by a twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 engine which produces 624 bhp/465 kW and a maximum torque of 800 Nm available from 1,500 rpm. The coupe gets from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds (0-62 in 4.6), marginally swifter than the 563 bhp/420kW Ghost which goes from zero to Stig in 4.7 seconds.
In the Wraith debuts the Satellite Aided Transmission, a technology that uses GPS mapping data to ensure the correct gear is always pre-selected for the road terrain ahead.
Besides that it also gets a wide rear track, shorter wheelbase and lower roof height. The suspension has been tuned to minimize body roll and improved feedback when cornering. Other features include a head-up display, adaptive headlights and a keyless opening boot.
Controlling the navigation through on-screen functions will be via a touch pad that features pinch and pull functionality that mimics smart phone operations; it even has hand writing recognition…assuming the owners to these cars are literate.
Pricing details will be revealed later in the year and the first customers of the Wraith will have to wait till the final quarter of 2013.
