The original Range Rover created in 1970 was possibly the world’s first luxury SUV. Almost 50 years, Land Rover – a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate TATA Motors will introduce the 4th member of the family – the Range Rover Velar – which is to be unveiled on 1 March 2017.
It will fill the white space between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. Land Rover Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern stated, “We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”
The origin of the Velar name (pronounced vel-ar) dates back to the first Range Rover prototypes of the 1960s. When development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rovers, they chose the name Velar, derived from the Latin velare meaning to veil or cover.
As of now we literally have nothing on the Range Rover Velar. All we know from the pictures is that it will feature the following…
The exteriors are defined by double rear lamps like the mother Range Rover, except it will have a horizontal orientation; a large, very large panoramic roof with a roof-mounted spoiler and body-integrated door handles.
On the insides, it shall feature a 10.2-inch infotainment screen…maybe 12.3-inch, can’t really tell. And possibly a 7-inch colour LCD screen for the instrument cluster as well.
If you want the complete info on the Range Rover Velar, you will have to wait till 1 March 2017, when its announced.
