On Tuesday, 26 September 2017, state media announced, Saudi Arabia to allow women to drive, citing a royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The decree has instructed that a ministerial body be set up to advice within 30 days and that the order will be implemented by June 2018.
The Saudi Press Agency said, “The royal decree will implement the provisions of traffic regulations, including the issuance of driving licenses for men and women alike”
According to Arab News, “Saudi Arabia allows women to drive” the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Twitter.
And according to qz.com, “Saudi women will be able to drive alone and won’t need their guardian’s permission – usually usually a father, brother, or husband – to get a driver’s license. The Interior Ministry will need to make a decision on whether women can be professional drivers.”
