Reworked Audi R8 models for 2013

The Audi R8 was launched almost 7 years ago and for 2013 it receives a well deserved rework and facelift.

Audi revealed the revamped 2013 R8 lineup, endorsed by styling changes like the full LED headlights and a new rear indicator lights with dynamicized display. Also reworked are the front bumper now with the air inlets bearing three crossbars each and exhaust pipes that are now circular for the V8 model. Besides replacing the R tronic with a 7-speed S tronic transmission, they have also introduced a new flagship V10 Plus model.

The 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine produces 316 kW (430 bhp, up 16 horses) at 7,900 rpm and 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. The S tronic equipped model gets from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds and has a 300 kmph topspeed.  Average fuel economy is rated at 12.4 l/100km or 19 US mpg.

The R8 V10 engine produces 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm, with 386 kW (525 bhp) at 8,000 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 314 kmph (195.11 mph). The average consumption rate of the R8 V10 Coupe with S tronic lies at 13.1 l/100km or 18 US mpg.

The R8 V10 plus developes 404 kW (550 bhp) and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. This coupe catapults from zero to 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 317 kmph (196.97 mph); the average fuel consumption rate is 12.9 l/100km or 18.2 US mpg.

All models are 0.3 seconds slower to 100 kmph but achieve a higher top speed with the 6-speed manual transmission.

The R8 rolls on wheels sized 8.5 J x 18 at the front and 10.5 J x 18 at the rear, with tire sizes 235/40 and 285/35. The  V10 gets 19-inch wheels of widths 8.5 and 11 inches; tires come in the sizes 235/35 and 295/30 respectively.

The new “Wave” design – wavy exterior contour, lowers the weight overall by about two kilo­grams (4.41 lb) compared with round discs of the same dimensions.

The base price is EUR 113,500 for the V8 Coupe, and EUR 124,800 for the Spyder. The V10 variants are priced at EUR 154,600 and EUR 165,900 respectively, while the R8 V10 plus costs EUR 173,200.

The R8 will be available to European customers by the end of the year. No word on the US or the Middle East model yet.
