The Panamera is a fantastic car overall, but I’m sure you’ve thought it could have looked better, everybody has. Fear no more! Porsche plans to showcase the Panamera Sport Turismo at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and it is poised to take on and take down your idea of even considering buying a Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake and much of the styling seen here will filter down to the soon-to-be face-lifted Panamera.
The Sport Turismo is 1,990 mm wide, a low 1,401 mm in height and 4,950 mm long. From the looks of it, it’s got those Boxster-esque lights and 911-style tail lamps, doing away with the ugly rear end of the current Panamera.
The Sport Turismo is powered by a Parallel full hybrid; 3-litre V6 engine, charged and hybrid module with electric motor and disengagement clutch, with power sent to the rear wheels. Max. rated output is at 245 kW (333 bhp) V6 plus an extra 70 kW (95 bhp) from the hybrid module, totaling to…you do the math.
Electrical energy is supplied by a Lithium-ion battery with 9.4 kWh capacity. The 0 to 100 km/h dash is clocked in under 6 seconds and the top speed is 130 km/h in pure electric mode (our guess is it will show atleast 270 km/h on the speedo otherwise). Combined fuel economy is less than 3.5 l/100 km and CO2 emissions run as low as 82 g/km. In pure electric mode, it will do more than 30 kms to the ‘charge’.
As a plug-in hybrid, the fluid-cooled lithium-ion battery is not only charged while driving; it can also be externally charged within 2.5 hours from a household power outlet.
Instead of classic instruments, a large central TFT colour display is used to display the tachometer, navigation etc. Two monitors, one to the left and one to the right of this display, show images from the “exterior mirror” cameras.
Interestingly, Porsche allows smart phone users to access and control all key vehicle information with an app; functions that direct plug-in charge controls and air-con’ controls.
