Pininfarina, the Italian Design house known for sculpting many a creation from Ferrari has created the Sergio, a red barchetta (roughly translated to “little boat” in Italian – it is an open 2-seater sports car that was built for racing, originally).
It is low slung and like racing cars of yore, has traded a windshield for a more wind-in-your-hair experience. The structure above and attached to the head rests seem to be roll bars and by the looks of it, it has been designed to bear a mid-to-rear mounted engine with the possibilities of force-fed turbo for the combined advantage of power and fuel efficiency, with power being delivered to the rear axle. The source to the headlamps and tail lamps look like powerful LEDs and the wheels size of a large diameter, possibly 19-inch or 20-inch.
It was built to honor of Sergio Pininfarina, the Life Senator and Honorary Chairman of the Pininfarina Group, whose all-seasons ended in July 2012. Allow me to quote a line from the 2009 movie Love Happens “Funerals are important rituals. They’re not only recognition that a person has died; they’re recognition that a person has lived.”…in this case it’s a car that did it.
The Pininfarina Sergio concept car which will debut on March 5th at the Geneva Motor Show.
