The revamped model of the Europe’s popular compact crossover SUVs, the Opel MOKKA X is now available across showrooms in the UAE. Accompanying the name change – the addition of the ‘X’ – is a refreshed exterior and interior and new technology. The ‘X’ is the new global signature for the brand’s innovative ethos for its SUV and crossover vehicles. It will also be seen in the first ever Crossland X model which forms part of a five-product launch by the German automaker over the next twelve months.
The compact crossover SUV is aimed at drivers who are looking for a family vehicle that will serve with the functionality and connectivity of a SUV while being safe and easy-to-handle, after all it is measures only 4.28 meters bumper to bumper.
On the outside, the most distinctive change from its predecessor is the new headlight clusters that combine daytime running lamps and LED technology. The design is more squarer than before. Adding to the MOKKA X’s new connectivity features is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This phone projection technology enables iPhone users to display certain apps and functionality from their phone on the vehicle‘s infotainment display. This also allows occupants to control those apps and functions via the vehicle‘s infotainment system touchscreen or through voice commands.
Under the hood, things remain unchanged – the 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged, ECOTEC petrol engine is coupled to an 6-speed automatic transmission and. It produces a peak output of 140 PS (103 kW) between 4, 900 – 6, 000 rpm and 200 Nm between 1,850 – 4, 900 rpm. The Opel MOKKA X is claimed to complete the 0 to 100 km/h dash 10.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 191 km/h.
The Opel MOKKA X will be available in two trim levels with prices starting from AED 71,000 in the UAE.
Although the sales have been modest in the GCC for a relatively useful car, the MOKKA X has been sold to more than over 600,000 units globally and with this revamp, the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker hopes to establish its place in the Middle East too.
