Nissan Leaf | Fastest car to climb Goodwood…in reverse

The sights, sounds and speed of the Nissan Leaf is probably not what you want to see and hear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the likelihood of that electric hatchback to holding a record on the road course was considered next to impossible…..until now.

The Leaf completed the 1.16-mile (1.87km) Goodwood hill-climb course 1 minute and 37 seconds. In the festival’s illustrious history, no car has ever ascended Goodwood quicker in reverse. It did help that 2012 marked the first year for this kind of event and the fact that no other cars participated in it.

How was this possible? The Leaf uses a single-speed transmission and because of its elastic power delivery it can drive just as fast in reverse as it can in drive forward.
