BMW was the first to incorporate a 30-pin Apple iPod connector back in 2004. This was big not only because most automakers like Audi, Mercedes-Benz and VW followed suit but most automakers made a provision for a product from one particular brand.
Now that the rest of world has obliged, all must seem well? Not exactly. Rumour has it that Apple may replace the 30-pin connector for a smaller 19-pin connector for the iPhone 5, instantly making it incompatible with the built-in 30-pin connectors in Kia, Hyundai and Nissan vehicles.
Fortunately most new vehicles come equipped with integrated USB ports and Bluetooth which allow for streaming music. In some way making the new 19-pin connector redundant before it’s release.
Does Apple understand the gravity of the situation? 😉
