A motorist driving on a road in Dubai was caught using two mobile phones while driving; with no hands on the steering wheel. This circus act of sorts was penalized AED 200 by authorities.
Colonel Ahmed Al Murri, Head of Crime Scene Section of the Forensic Evidence Department at Dubai Police, told a local newspaper that he caught the Asian driver red-handed last week while he not on duty.
Officers have handed out 31,461 fines to drivers for using their phones while behind the wheel in the first half of this year.
Al Murri stated, “I was driving my car when I saw another vehicle driving slowly on the highway. The car wasn’t going in straight line either. It was a strange and dangerous sight.” Al Murri pulled alongside the Asian motorist, whose nationality was not stated, and saw him talking into a phone in his right hand while using another phone with his left.
Al Murri said the wheel was not being steering and the car was meandering and added by saying, “It was clearly dangerous behaviour and I asked him to stop. He claimed he had received an urgent call from his boss and needed the second phone to check a message to give it to his employer.”
The current penalty is AED 200 and four black points, the Federal Traffic Council recommended to the Ministry of Interior to raise that to AED 1,000 and 12 traffic points, earlier this year.
