The flagship super-naked motorcycle from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer – the 2017 Suzuki GSX-S1000 – will get a power boost. It now produces 150 hp at 10,000 rpm, up from 144 bhp. The added oomph comes comes courtesy of the new crankcase ventilation holes in the fuel injected 999 cc inline 4-cylinder powerplant that’s based on the legendary long-stroke GSX-R1000 engine. While the addition of a new slipper clutch will help in delivering smoother downshifts. Peak torque is also up, now at 108 Nm at 9,500 rpm. The motor will be coupled to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission.
The improvements also extend to the GSX-S1000F which wears the sporty fairing, which uses the same motor and chassis as its naked sibling. It also benefits from recalibrated suspension settings and the addition of a wind tunnel-tested fairing turn the GSX-S1000F into quite the sportsbike.
Both motorcycles feature a 3-mode traction control system, that can be turned off, as well as Brembo monobloc calipers with 4-piston, twin discs upfront and 1-piston single disc at the rear; and ABS, a lightweight frame mated to the swingarm from the previous generation GSX-R1000, and fully adjustable KYB suspension.
Visual changes to both motorcycles come in the form of black levers and foot controls, while the F model also gets a tinted screen. For 2017 both variants are available in a blue and black livery as well as the popular red and black colour scheme, which continues for a second year. The GSX-S1000F will also be available in all-white.
For 2017, there’s also a special edition GSX-S1000 Phantom wearing stealthy matt black livery combined with selected red highlights, all-black silencer, and black forks.
The 2017 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is available in UK showroom for £9,699, while the GSX-S1000 Phantom special edition retails for £9,899, while the GSX-S1000F can be purchased at £10,299. Watch this space for updates on the prices in the Middle East.
