Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have named its all-new SUV “Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross” – a nameplate pilfered from its front-wheel drive sports-ish car, the Eclipse.
The new crossover SUV, which looks to have roughly the dimensions of the Mitsubishi ASX, has sharper, coupé-like contours and its name attempts to reference popular Eclipse sports car of which more than 1.4 million sales, mainly in North America between 1989 and 2012, while the ‘Cross’ suffix also hints at the crossover-functionality it will offer. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will broaden the current portfolio the consists of the Mitsubishi ASX, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mitsubishi Pajero and others.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will debut at Hall 2, Stand 2130 in the Geneva Motor Show, which is to be held on March 7 2017. It will feature an deep gloss red metallic, a new tone specially developed for this brand new model using an innovative painting process.
Some of the styling features evident from the latest set of teaser pictures are as follows:
- Two-slat chrome grille
- LED fog lamps
- LED DRLs underlining the headlamp cluster
- Mirror-mounted indicators
- Creased door panels
- Roof-mounted rear spoiler
- Full-width horizontal tail lamps
However, we think the big surprise just may be the wheels and tyres that they have purposely blacked-out in the pictures. Also, the powertrain options haven’t been announced.
