Electric R/C MINI Coopers are being used to retrieve thrown javelins, hammers, shot and discuses at the London Olympics 2012.
Dubbed “Mini MINI,” these three electric R/C MINI Cooper hatchbacks are about 1/4-scale of the original car. The size ensures that they match that necessary payload capacity of upto 8 kilos or 18 pounds i.e the maximum weight of a hammer, a discus, a shot or a pair of javelins and also helps them include a larger battery that allows for a 35 minute running time after 80 minutes of charging. The models are painted blue with orange Olympic livery and white roofs, and they even have working headlights.
The Mini MINI R/C cars will be used at both the Olympic and Paralympic games, and they join a fleet of 160 full-size BMW 1 Series Active E and 40 MINI E hatchbacks cars as part of BMW’s own all-electric Olympic team.
