The new Mercedes-AMG GT R has set the fastest-ever lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife for a road-going rear-wheel drive sports car in a test drive conducted by “sport auto”.
The top-dog of the AMG model range with its front mid-engine layout with transaxle, extensively modified suspension, sophisticated aerodynamics, active rear-axle steering, bespoke tyres, intelligent lightweight design and 430 kW (585 hp) V8 biturbo engine was able to set a record-breaking time of 7:10.9 minutes – faster through the “Green Hell” than any other ever tested by the German motoring magazine.
This remarkable performance by the new Mercedes-AMG GT R has set the fastest-ever lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife for a road-going rear-wheel drive sports car in a test drive conducted by “sport auto” puts it behind the just behind the slightly more powerful 441 kW / 591 bhp 2017 Nissan GT-R time which clocked a time of 7:08.68 minutes. Whilst, the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar with its time of 6:67.0 minutes and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce with its time of 6:59.73 remain safe…for now!
