Check out the latest 35-second ad by General Motors ad! They show the Opel Ampera-e, a Chevrolet Bolt electric equivalent and minivan-like vehicle finishing first in a 30 metre drag race with other “sportier” Opel models, namely, 189 bhp Corsa OPC, 185 bhp Opel Adam R2, the mighty 330 bhp Astra TCR race car and the 325 bhp Insignia OPC…thus showcasing its short sprint capabilities!
As quick as it may be, we think it the ad could be a rip-off, a copy of an older Smart car ad from a few years ago, in which a Smart Fortwo takes on a Mustang (looks like a V6), an Audi A5 and a Porsche Boxster and wins in a 5 metre drag race. They too wanted to prove a similar point by stating, “Top speed means nothing in the city” and “It’s the first 5 metres that count”! Have a look for yourself!
The Opel Ampera-e will make its debit at the 2016 Paris Motor Show later this month. General Motors have stated that the car will be available in Europe by 2017. Opel previously used the Ampera nameplate with the Euro version of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in.
