James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 makes a scene in ‘Skyfall’

Check out this videoblog for the upcoming Bond film Skyfall. It features some show and speech about the most recognisable Bond car, the Aston Martin DB5 from Sam Mendes, Director of American Beauty and Road to Peridition director and Roger Deakins, the Cinematographer for Jarhead and No Country for Old Men.

The DB5 made a cameo in Casino Royale as the other guy’s car . In Skyfall however, the DB5 has a more mature role, and it has the same plate number, BMT 216A  as it did in its first appearance in Goldfinger, though it isn’t the original car.

The Aston Martin DB5 was launched in 1963 and was the replacement for the DB4. Although Ian Fleming’s novel mentions 007 to be driving a DB Mk 3, it was the DB5 which was the latest Aston of the range at the time Goldfinger was launched (hence used) and it went on making several appearances in Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale and now Skyfall.

The DB5 has a 4.0-litre I-6 engine matched to a 5-speed transmission; as oppsed to the 3.7-litre on the DB4. The standard engine, with three SU carburettors, produced 282 bhp (210 kW), and could propel the car the way from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds, all the way upto a 238 kmph (141 mph) top speed.

Skyfall releases on October 26, 2012.
