For the first time, Toyota just showed off the updated 2014 4Runner at the 2013 Stagecoach Music Festival near Palm Springs, California.
The body-on-frame SUV has been treated to a host of changes on the outside like new smoked headlamps at the front and rear; and a reworked front grille. It also gets new wheels.
Both 4×2 and 4×4 models will be powered by the same 4.0-litre V6 producing (201 kW) and 278 lb-ft (376 Nm) mated to a 5-speed automatic as before. It returns an EPA-rated city/highway economy of 17 / 23 mpg for the 4×2 model and 17 / 22 mpg for the 4×4 model. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds and all models are equipped with an integrated tow-hitch receiver and wiring harness.
2014 YM is gets new finishes for the interior, Optitron gauges, Toyota’s Entune infotainment technology and an in-glass antenna. There is an optional navigation unit features a seven-inch screen available also.
The 4Runner will be offered in three trims, a SR5, a Limited, and off-road-ready Trail specification. The SR5 and Limited versions have 3-row seating and 8-way power driver seat. Limited model gets a richer leather upholstered interior with ventilated driver/front passenger seats and 4-way for the front passenger. The second row splits and fold in a 40/20/40 manner and the one-touch walk-in function allows for easier entry/exit into and out of the third row.
