What you are about to see is a unassuming van (no not the F1-engine powered Renault Espace from the 90s) like the one below, but a brick-shaped battery pack on wheels take on and beat a Ferrari California and Tesla Model S in the ultimate battle of the bulge, on what seems to be an airplane runway in Crows Landling, California…and no, Crows Landing is not a fictional place from Game Of Thrones.
“Edna” is Atieva’s powertrain test vehicle equipped with their patented electric powertrain system. They use this van to test the motors, transmissions, batteries, power electronics and software that will be driving our future production cars
Atieva are currently working an all-electric platform to bring the sedan to market, sometime in 2018, hopefully. And as a follow up to that will be the launch of two luxury crossovers in 2020 and 2021.
The company also plans to erect a car factory in California inorder to obtain some tax relief with the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority. The plant will cost $530 million to build.
