The italian cruiser, Ducati XDiavel S, previously the winner of the European “Red Dot Award 2016”, has now been bestowed upon the coveted “Good Design Award 2016”.
The Good Design Award was established in 1950 and is the world’s oldest prize dedicated to the most innovative industrial products and graphic designs produced around the globe. For the 2016 edition of the Good Design Award, the jury evaluated more than 900 candidates from 46 countries, with products spanning across the spectrum, from electronics to robotics, from furnishing to graphics and vehicles.
In this category, Ducati XDiavel S wins the prestigious award thanks to the unique silhouette, one that oozes style, reflects innovation. The Ducati XDiavel is a true Technocruiser, meticulously designed down to the very last detail, and provides a glimpse into the future of motorcycle design.
The “Good Design Award 2016” event took place on 27 January at the New York site of the Chicago Atheneum, during the Museum’s Good Design Night.
The Ducati XDiavel is powered measures 2,310 mm long, 755 mm tall at the seat and 1010 mm wide at the handle bars. It is uses a exposed tubular steel Trellis frame and has a wet weight of 247 kg (545 lb). It has an adjustable Ø 50 mm usd fork with DLC treatment and single shock absorber with adjustable preload and rebound. It is powered by a 1.2-litre Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing), L-Twin with 4 Desmodromically actuated valves per cylinder. It puts out 156 PS (114.7 kW) @ 9,500 rpm and 95,0 lb-ft (128,9 Nm) of torque at 5,000 rpm; and is hooked to a 6-speed transmission and rides on directional spoke alloys wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso II, 120/70 ZR17 upfront and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II 240/45 ZR17 at the rear. Braking performance is provided by 2 x 320 mm (12,60 in) semifloating discs with Radial Brembo monobloc 4-piston M50 callipers and 265 mm (10,43 in) disc, 2-piston floating calliper. ABS comes as standard equipment. It also has an 18-litre tank and a 3.5-inch TFT colour display.
