Wolfgang Durheimer is overseeing the Bugatti 16C Galibier project before he moves to Audi. It will become the world’s fastest 5-door hatchback as and when it goes into production.
The 16C showed face in 2009 as a two-tone concept but it was in 2011 that the Galibier was given the go-head. The model claimed to have about 1,000 horsepower and an hybrid power as an option.
Unfortunately, the project was scrapped for not equating to Bugatti’s known eccentricity. Later, the Galibier then went back to the drawing boards and now the car is poised to go into production in 2015.
Durheimer did mention “over 1,000 hp”, but peak output could easily top 1,400 horses, in a non-hybrid form. He also said that it will be “faster than anything on the market” and that means a 235 mph or 380 kmph. The Galibier will also have technologies that are automotive firsts.
“The final design still is in flux.”, the hatchback’s entire rear end is being redesigned, but the eight tailpipes will remain. Now that is eccentricity times 4…at least!
