The Transformers franchise is amongst the biggest we have seen in the movie and retail industry in recent time, and by past depictions of these Autobots and Decepticons, we always tend to associate these vehicle-morphing robots to supercars, muscle cars, trucks and wheeled or flying instruments of war.
But Indian artist Anirudh Sigh Shekhawat thinks differently, he has created the Transformers India Project, wherein he takes famous, recognisable Indian vehicles and gives them the Transformers treatment. While in conversation with the website ScoopWhoop, he mentioned, “I have always been fascinated by robots and science fiction and this obsession began when I saw some Transformers at the local toy shop. I take a lot of inspiration from India in my designs as I feel there is so much to be explored and experimented with. So Indian vehicles became my first choice.”
Check out some of his creations below:
The social servant, like no other – the auto rickshaw – which are predominantly Bajaj Autos
The Classic Premier Padmini, previously known as FIAT 1100 Delight and as a Transformer – Biddu
N.E.T.A – The Lawmaker Hindustan Motors Ambassador Transformer based on the conniving politician
The Mahindra Scorpio Transformer that wields a hockey stick and doesn’t give a “puck” about street thugs.
The Abductor, based on the Maruti Omni Van – the kidnappers choice of vehicle in India
The Bhoomiputra, the redneck or in this case red-body Mahindra tractor that weeds out the badguys in the country.
Rajdoot and Chetak, the bike-and-scooter team, who just can’t seem to keep both their wheels on the ground – thanks to raging hormones
And finally Shakti – the Indian counterpart to Optimus Prime – which based on the Indian Shakti lorry and inspired by the female deity, Lakshmi.
