AM General to sell Humvee kit car

Everyone loves the Hummer especially the H1 and now AM General gives you the chance to own a version of the original war machine inspired HMMWV, albeit without an engine.

After a 12-year MIA from the civilian vehicle market, AM General is set to offer a kit-car of the C-Series Humvee. The kit car will conform to U.S. government regulations; made possible by a deal with GM.

The kit is priced at $59,000. The engine though is something you need to “add to cart” as it comes without one. A popular choice would be a Duramax Diesel V8 matched to an Allison transmission, like that on the H1 Alpha. Opt for this combination and and you could buy the kit Humvee for as cheap as $75,000 that’s cheap considering the H1 Alpha wore a $140,000 pricetag back in 2005.

Catch is, the final product will not look exactly like the civilian Hummer H1, due to some legalities and it will not have creature comforts such as an interior trim (???), power locks, door mounted mirrors, or even hard doors. The bare-boned vehicle will simply have four-seats, soft-top, soft door vehicle. AM General will offer ‘add-on’ factory options such as the Central Tire Inflation System, rocker protection, and potentially two-piece beadlock wheels.

FYI guys,”just remember – its a Humvee, not a Hummer.”
