All-new 2018 SsangYong Rexton SUV Revealed

Ladies and gentleman, the all-new 2018 SsangYong Rexton SUV has been revealed. The new SUV was under development under the project name of Y400 and was displayed at the Paris motor show in September 2016 under another name – LIV-2 concept. Internationally, it will be known as the SsangYong Rexton except in Korea where it will take on the name ‘G4 Rexton’.

This new generation Rexton – which looks a bit like a Chevrolet Trailblazer – will compete in the D & E segment SUVs, and can be seen as a follow up to the brand revival which began with the launch of Tivol. The new SsangYong Rexton is 4,850mm long, 1,920mm wide, 1,800mm high, and has a 2,865mm wheelbase.

With a front mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and 4×4 options and a Quad-Frame body structure constructed using 1.5Gpa giga-steel – a world first – it is presumed to be an robust and capable SUV. It also features 63% advanced high strength steel (AHSS) to create greatly improved body strength while reducing weight. And under the hood will be either a petrol or one of Ssangyong’s new clean-burning diesel engines.

The seemingly conventional interior draws cues from like the diamond stitching in Mercedes-Benz S-Class interior with plenty of satin finish trims and an interesting faux wood veneer. Technologically speaking, it will feature a wide 9.2-inch HD screen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto with smart device mirroring and 3D Around View Monitoring (AVM) – atleast the top-spec model well. As for safety, nine airbags will form part of the conversation.

The car will go on sale in Korea during the first half of 2017, and internationally before the end of 2017.
