Lap times at the Nürburgring Nordschleife a.k.a. ‘Green Hell’ has been the yard stick of performance for the modern day sports car and its no surprise that even the Americans come back to this meandering road to place themselves high on a more-fortunate list.
But that is not today’s news! Today’s slightly-baffling news is that the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo has been able to send a countryman, namely Fabio Francia, down that ‘spagetti’ road for speedsters in their all-new 4-door sports sedan – the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio in a record-setting time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
Now, its a given that the Giulia Quadrifogolio with its 503bhp turbo V6 engine and its 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds, makes for a very fast family saloon, but to beat the new 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo by 8 seconds is something of a wonder…and really, I’m still in limbo!
Then again, if the 2015 Honda Civic Type-R with a relatively-measly 306 bhp ….and front-wheel drive can do it in a mind-boggling 7 minutes and 50 seconds, so can this red-blooded Italian!
