The Ministry of Interior, Abu Dhabi has announced its 50 per cent discount on traffic fines will end on 1 August 2016, as a measure to improve the road safety standards in the emirate.
According to MOI, the capital’s roads recorded 77 traffic related fatalities in the first three months of 2016 alone; in comparison, only 54 deaths that occurred over the same period last year. Another six people were killed across 21 road accidents in the first week of the Ramadan.
Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police also stated that 1,837 motorists had been arrested on its roads between January and April of 2016, for driving at speeds exceeding 200 km/h.
While, during Ramadan, drivers committed 21,590 offences on the roads approximately, including reckless driving, failure to fasten seat belt, jumping the red lights and speeding.
