American auto-maker GMC revealed the all-new 2018 GMC Terrain at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit. The brands’s compact SUV has been given more refined styling, inside and out, a plethora of advanced safety technologies and a choices of two all-new turbocharged engines matched with new 9-speed automatic transmissions – a first for the GMC lineup.
The all-new 2018 Terrain Denali will feature its signature satin chrome grille along with Denali-specific accents including body-color fascias and lower trim, plus chrome roof rails, door handles, side mirror caps and body-side molding. Additionally, LED headlamps and 19-inch ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels are standard on Denali. All other models feature a slatted chrome grille, signature C-shaped LED daytime running lamps and LED tail lamps. Bi-functional HID headlamps are standard on SLE and SLT. Additionally, 17-inch wheels are standard on SLE, with 18-inch wheels available on SLE, and standard on SLT.
Customers of the 2018 Terrain Denali will the choice of two all-new turbocharged gas engines. The base engine is a new 1.5L inline 4-cylinder, SAE-certified at 170 hp (127 kW) and 203 lb.-ft. of torque (275 Nm); there is also a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, SAE-certified 252 hp (188 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm) with ninety percent of peak torque is available from 2,000 rpm to 5,600 rpm. Both are matched with two new nine-speed automatic transmissions. GMC’s new Electronic Precision Shift allocated more storage roon in the center console by replacing the conventional transmission shifter with electronically controlled gear selection consisting of intuitive push buttons and pull triggers. The Terrain comes standard with GMC’s driver-controllable Traction Select system. AWD models now include a FWD mode that disconnects the front axle to minimize drag and optimize fuel economy.
The new Terrain’s interior has been given an overhaul as well. It will feature elements such as authentic aluminum trim, soft-touch materials on the instrument panel and doors; and standard active noise cancellation. Also, the instrument panel will now include a colour TFT screen. The Terrain Denali gets an unique trim tint color and Denali-specific logos and piping on the front seats. Other standard features include, a heated steering wheel, navigation, Bose premium 7-speaker sound system and a hands-free programmable power liftgate.
An expanded center console with pass-through storage underneath and side-by-side cupholders adds to the Terrain’s functionality. A new fold-flat front passenger seat and flat-folding rear seat help Terrain offer greater versatility for stowing longer items and make it easier to load cargo. There cargo compartment also features under-floor storage. GMC keeps passengers connected with 7- and available 8-inch-diagonal infotainment systems, featuring compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Terrain also features GMC’s new Rear Seat Reminder that alerts drivers to check the back seat as they exit their vehicles under certain circumstances.
The 2018 GMC Terrain goes on sale this summer in the Middle East in SLE, SLT and Denali models and is expected to maintain the momentum created by the first-generation model which sold more than 700,000 globally since 2009. Prices for the all trim level have yet to be announced.
