All-New 2017 Honda CR-V Launched In The Middle East & Africa

Honda launched the much of the All-New 5th Generation 2017 Honda CR-V crossover SUV at the Waldorf Astoria, Ras Al Khaimah, U.A.E, today. The completely redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR-V sports – finally – a handsome exterior and has an more practical-minded interior with a host of new technologies…and the same renowed quality that has made it the popular choice in the compact crossover SUV segment.

The New CR-V comes in four grades namely, DX and LX in 2 Wheel Drive (2WD) and EX and Touring in All Wheel Drive (AWD) and is priced at AED 89,000 for the base model and the top end Touring model retails at AED 120,000 for the top dog.

Under the hood of the 2017 Honda CR-V is a familiar 2.4-litre DOHC, but this time around its a direct injected i-VTEC engine that pushes max. horsepower to 184-horsepower @ 6400rpm and torque to 244NM @ 3900rpm.  Its mated to a CVT with Honda G-Shift control logic. The shift pattern AKA mapping has been revised to behave more like a conventional SUV. The claimed fuel consumption figures for the CR-V is 15.5km for the 2WD DX and LX grades; and 14.7km/L for the 4WD EX and Touring grades.

The all-new body and chassis design in the 2017 Honda CR-V is expected to be more agile and more refined. Its front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension utilize specially tuned low-friction dampers, with both FWD and AWD models including tubular front and solid rear stabilizer bars that make for quicker turn-ins and flatter cornering. The dual-pinion, variable ratio Electric Power Steering (EPS) also contributes to the ease of driving.

Aesthetically, the CR-V sports a sharper front-end with sleek headlights surrounded by wing-shaped LED Day Time Running Light (DRL) array on all grades. The top spec Touring model gets Acura-like full LED headlamps. Wider, muscular fenders over the wheel arches, a longer wheelbase and short rear overhang give the 2017 CR-V a more athletic stance. The New CR-V also features distinct LED taillights and 17 inch wheels on the DX and LX and 18 inch wheels on the EX and Touring Grades – which to us looked a little awkward and inspired from hybrid vehicles. It also includes a Power Programmable Tailgate, which opens and closes at the push of a button with added tailgate height-adjustability feature (available on Touring grade only) – a first for the CR-V. It also gets standard features like power door mirrors, side mirror LED indicators, rear fog lights, headlight off timer, various chrome garnishes and auto rain sensing wipers (Touring only).

The cabin is more spacious, with top-in-class i2017 Honda CR-V - Interiornterior space and rear seat legroom. It also gets upgraded materials throughout, including a new cushion-backed soft-touch instrument panel and stylized stitching on the seats. Insides, you also get a color TFT driver information interface (DII) center meter display.

The DX and LX grades have a 5-inch Color Screen Audio and the EX and Touring grades have a 7-inch touch screen Display Audio interface with Android operating systemTM that now features a physical volume knob – thank heavens – as well as an available Navigation system.  The larger screen Display Audio is compatible with Apple CarPlayTM and AndroidAutoTM platforms, making integration of key smartphone features smart phone GPS navigation and voice controlled search capabilities.

The new instrument interface also displays average fuel consumption, AWD torque identification, turn-by-turn navigation and Driver Attention Monitor. The new Driver Attention Monitor is also designed to detect driver fatigue and alert the driver when exhibiting diminished attention to the road with a series of visual and audio alerts.

The Honda LANEWATCHTM feature in EX and Touring grades, uses a camera located in the passenger door mirror to display a clear image of the lanes and any vehicles that are on the lane on the 7-inch Display Audio screen. The Multi Angle Rearview Camera with dynamic guidelines.

The 2017 Honda CR-V also includes a smart entry and remote engine start (LX, EX and Touring only), single-zone air conditioning in DX and dual-zone climate controls in the remaining grades, rear A/C ducts in all grades, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror (EX and Touring only), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Brake Hold function, front USB ports, rear 2.5A USB charging ports and front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment and driver’s seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support.

The 2017 Honda CR-V utilizes Honda’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure and has received the highest available collision safety ratings, including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). So its been developed with safety in mind!

The 2017 Honda CR-V utilizes an Electronic Brake Booster (EBB), which replaces the conventional vacuum Brake Booster. It is controlled by a microprocessor that monitors the vehicle speed as well as the brake pedal pressure to develope greater hydraulic pressure for quicker stops.

Other Honda active-safety features such as Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control Systems (TCS), ABS, Electronic Brake Distributor (EBD), Agile Handling Assist, Tire Pressure Monitor System, Brake Over Ride System and Hill Start Assist.
