2014 Chevrolet SS revealed | The original bad boy of Arabia is back

2014 Chevrolet SS 1The Chevrolet Lumina SS, the original bad ass of Arabia is back for 2014. It’s no secret that it is a rebadged VF-model Holden Commodore.

Buck-for-the-buck is what the SS was all about and this one spares more horses from the 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque; 35 bhp and 35 lb-ft lesser than its cousin the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Chevy  says the sedan will  go from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds, shaving almost half a second off the last model.

Torque transmission is handled by a 6-speed automatic with TAPshift paddles stopping arrive via four-piston Brembo calipers  and 355 mm discs up front, a single sliding piston with 324 mm discs at the back. The forged aluminum wheels are of 19-inch diameter and it will be wrapped around by 245-section and 275-section at the front and rear respectively. The car has a weight distribution of 50:50 front to back and the use of an aluminium hood and bootlid has help it keep the weight low.

In the cabin, you get leather upholstered seats with 8-way power front seats for the driver and seating for up to 5 adults. You also get a nine-speaker Bose sound system, head-up display and safety features like Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone alert. The SS is also the first Chevrolet to offer Automatic Parking Assist.

Exterior styling features include a staggered front and rear wheels, “power bulge”, a  tapered, tear-drop rear end, a jewel-like chrome accents, standard high-intensity discharge xenon headlamps and LED DRLs.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS will debut this weekend at the Daytona International Speedway as the SS racecar makes its NASCAR debut during the Daytona 500 and will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013. Prices will be announced closer to the date, but our estimates says, AED 145,000 for the top-spec model.
