Lamborghini plans to equip the 2013 6.5-liter V12 Aventador with features like CDS, or “Cylinder Deactivation System” and stop/start system, according to Auto Motor und Sport.
CDS will allow the Italian supercar to run on six of its 12 cylinders when needed and the start/stop system does away with a battery and employs a capacitor instead, which is seven pounds lighter and can charge up more quickly. The system starts the engine up in a mere 180 milliseconds.
FYI, the average stop/start system takes about 250 milliseconds, while the Ferrari system takes 230 milliseconds.
The report states that the combination of the features will result in a 20 percent increase in fuel economy for the 2013 Aventador, which currently returns 11 US mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.
Other updates for the 2013 Aventador include a new instrument panel that magnifies the figures on the speedometer and tachometer and more carbon-fibre bits, including the engine cover. The 2013 YM Aventador will be showcased at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this September.
