100 years of the Aston Martin | Vanquish atop the Burj Al Arab

Aston Martin Vanquish Burj Al Arab 12013 celebrates 100 years of a brand of British origin, the very fabulous Aston Martin. One act of commemoration was a James Bond-like feat; they airlifted the brand new Vanquish from the ground and placed it atop one of the world’s most expensive hotels, the Burj Al Arab; on the helipad. The troubling winds were putting the staff to task; and nope the aerodynamic abilities of the Vanquish don’t come to help at that height.

The British Ambassador to the UAE was also present. A charming young fellow he is, except he sounded a bit like Mr. Bean on a regular day and he went on about the “greatness” of Britain; charming and hilarious I must say.

In any case, the Vanquish is a brilliantly beautiful car and it is equipped with a 6.0-litre V12, similar to the one seen on the first-generation Vanquish. Power has been uprated to from 460 bhp previously, to 565 bhp at 6,750 rpm and max. torque is a healthy 620 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. Top speed is a drag limited 295 km/h and if you get the opportunity to stomp the throttle at the traffic lights it will do 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.

The Vanquish is available as both a 2-seater or as a 2+2. Its body is made from Aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon-fibre.

Tree-huggers will be disappointed by its fuel economy of 19.6 mpg UK and CO2 emissions of 335 g/kms.

Congratulations to Aston Martin on the 100 year celebrations and thank you for showing us that there are more ways than one to waste money.
