10 things you must know about the 2013 SRT Viper

1. After a two year battle with bankruptcy, Chrysler have revived the Dodge Viper, the only American-built V10 supercar. This time around though, they are calling it the 2013 SRT Viper.

2. Powering the Viper will be the same 8.4-litre V-10. Peak outputs are rated at 640 at 6150 rpm and 600 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque at 4950 rpm. Both figures observe an increase of 40. In total, the engine is 25 pounds lighter now than its predecessor.

3. After being hand-assembled at the Conner Avenue assembly plant, every single Viper engine will be dyno tested to verify that it hits the advertised figures.

4. A six-speed Tremec manual remains the sole transmission choice, keeping the Viper in its position as unofficial Save the Manuals posterbeast. Launch control algorithm has also been added.

5. Claimed top speed is 206 mph or 332 kmph. With LC, 0 to 100 kmph runs should be in the mid-three-second range. SRT is claiming quarter-mile times in the mid 11s and high 120s mph.

6.The seats are built by Sabelt, the same supplier who sells them to Ferrari.

7. An underhood X-brace increased torsional stiffness by 50 percent.

8.The Viper gets Pirelli P Zero rubber measuring 295/30-18 up front and a steamroller-like 355/30-19 in the rear.

9. Base price for this new-gen Viper jumps is up eight grand over the 2010 model, just past $100,000. The Viper GTS starts at $120,000.

10. The 2013 SRT Viper is the only modern day muscle car out there. Oh wait! You also have the 662 horsepower 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and the 580 bhp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1…not so much.
